The New Year … 2008

I’ve never been one to make and take “New Years Resolutions” seriously. Sure, I’ve made them in the past, but can’t remember a year when I actually tried to stick to them. Maybe it’s the stigma attached to the name, or the general expectation that they are made to break. Anyways, this year I was very deliberate about making goals and things I want to work on during the year. I know that I need specifics in order to make something happen, not vague suggestions, so in my list of goals, I wrote down specific examples. While I haven’t kept on top of all of my goals, I am happy to say that they are a good guideline for me, and have spurred me on in various spiritual disciplines. That was the main focus for me…to really work on my relationship with God. So far, I’ve been challenged particularly in obedience and trust. It’s been tough at times, but it’s been good too. The best part has been sharing this with others, knowing they are encouraging me and praying for me.
At the end of January and beginning of February, I was part of our annual senior high youth trip to Hepburn, SK for Youth Advance. It was a crazy few days…not much sleep, lots of activity, and lots to process from the speaker. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect (I've never gone before) and was a bit apprehensive of what God would teach me since I’d heard stories from youth of things God had done in past years. I was (and am) processing a lot right now (as I explained already) and wasn’t sure I could handle more. But the neatest thing was that it wasn’t new stuff…just a confirmation that I am on the right path and that God is with me along the way. That was so encouraging to me and made me recognize that God knows exactly where I am at and he won’t push me beyond what I can handle. The trip home was great once we got on the road, and sharing with each other as well as the whole group made me realize that God is at work in amazing ways!
I think that just about does it for an update of the last few months. I have to say, I’ve really enjoyed the weather the last while, and have some pictures to prove it. Enjoy!

Snowdrops on a sunny Sunday

Definitely free-range chickens wandering their yard

A mountain view in Yarrow

The view (on a clear day) from my desk at work.

It's views like this that really make me thankful to live in the Fraser Valley.
