Last night at youth we were talking about contentment, particularly at this time of year and shared some heart-warming memories about Christmas. It was a good reminder for me that I have lots of good Christmas memories.
1. As a kid, singing and listening to my parents singing German and English carols around the Christmas tree during December. I remember sometimes I would get teary-eyed and the lights would blur a little and the tree looked so much more beautiful.
2. The church Christmas program on December 24 is always a highlight for me. I love seeing the little kids try and say their lines with the spotlights blinding them, and being so shy that their teachers have to say it for them. Even the little glitches that are there often seem to make it that much more meaningful.
3. Apple cider and gift opening after the program with my family, particularly the year my parents gave me a bunch of copper-like items for a fondue set. It was a joke, and got returned to MCC pretty quick.
4. Christmas caroling with friends in the freezing cold. There was lots of snow and freezing rain covered everything.
5. Christmas caroling with my family and friends, driving to houses of friends and surprising them at the door.
6. Christmas caroling with the youth as part of our Christmas party. Not much planning involved.
I'm sure there are lots more memories...but I can't think of them right now.
