My World These Days

Sometimes I wish I could do fun things all the time. In the last 3 weeks I've been able to enjoy some things I haven't done in some time.

My extended family (large crowd) was here for Easter combined with a baby shower for my sister.
Some of the missionaries I spent time with in India were in town and I hosted them and most of my team for dinner.
I laughed pretty hard watching a stage-version of "Pride and Prejudice".
I just got home from a wacky girls night with co-workers. Every so often someone decides to host all the ladies and we have food and games, hang out, and laugh. Tonight was no exception. There's a new staff member in another office and she is here for a few days of training. Well, for her to get to know the rest of us, she figured we should come up with words that go with our names that start with the same letter to help her remember our names. Well, when I said I couldn't come up with anything, they helped me oh so graciously. The name they all gave me ... "Racy Rachel". GREAT! It made us all laugh though. It was either that or "Rebellious". I guess I could have offered a few suggestions...radical, reflective, ... but I'm only thinking of these now so I guess it's too late. Anyways, it was fun to laugh and be together outside of work, even though somehow we always manage to talk about work-related things.

But I guess if life was all fun and games, there would be no learning from mistakes or hard times, nor would there be reason to look forward to the fun things. They would become so normal and routine that I would have to look further for fun things to do which might end up being more crazy and unprecedented... and potentially unsafe. So I suppose I'll stick with fun events every so often rather than being routine and ... BORING. I'll just have to look for the fun within the everyday.

This is wrapping paper from one of the shower gifts (in lieu of my sister). :)
