You might wonder, what’s all involved in taking a trip to India? Can’t you just book a ticket and go? Well, yes you can, but according to the doctor we saw this past Sunday, there’s a lot to be aware of. Like malaria, dengue fever, hepatitis, etc. So, we all listened to him talk about the dangers and what to do if we’re in certain situations, then received our necessary shots. At first, the pain was just the prick of the needle. But a few hours later, oh boy! It hurt to lift my arm above my shoulder, even to carry things with that hand was a stretch. I guess I’m grateful that we have such things as vaccines, but in the moment it’s not so much fun. Now there’s the super long email he sent telling us all the things to avoid that I need to read (some other day).
Another part of the preparation is experiencing some of the culture. We did that yesterday by going to an authentic Indian restaurant for dinner. What a neat experience. I can say that the food was good, although my mouth was burning by the end of it, and I only tasted the “mild” dishes. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cool too, with Indian music and décor. Of course one meal doesn’t make me totally prepared for the different cuisine, but it’s a start. The key is that I didn’t get sick from it.
What’s next? Who knows? But I’m sure it will be fun, or at least an adventure! Stay tuned…
